IRSC accepting applications for medical lab technology program

VERO BEACH — Individuals looking for a great career in a Health Science field should consider becoming a Medical Lab Technologist. Indian River State College prepares students for rewarding careers in Health Science.

Be part of the emerging biotechnology field. It has exciting new career opportunities locally. Every day, laboratory professionals perform tests, interpret results, and provide answers for a complete picture of a patient’s health.

IRSC is now accepting applications for the program, which starts in the fall of 2013. The application deadline for the program is April 19.

The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program leads to an A.S. degree and eligibility to take the national certification MLT-ASCP and MT-AAB exams which enable the student to work as a technologist in the state of Florida.

The MLT program can be completed within two years and consists of fifty percent classroom instruction and fifty percent lab practice. Students accepted in the MLT program receive a well-rounded general college education with a strong foundation in medical technology.

The medical technologist performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on blood specimens using sophisticated computer technology.
