Biking TM Goodwin with the ELC

WABASSO ISLAND — The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) introduces a new program for biking and nature enthusiasts. It is a biking tour of the TM Goodwin Waterfowl Management Area in western Indian River County.

The area is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. Participants will bike on the hardpacked levees next to the wetlands to see snowy egrets, great blue herons, night herons, osprey, and plenty of waterfowl. They also may see an occasional bobcat, otter, or alligator.

Two TM Goodwin biking trips are scheduled on Jan. 15 and 29 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost is $40 per person ($38 for ELC members) including bike rental.

After the trip, participants may join the group for lunch at the Marsh Landing restaurant in Fellsmere. The lunch is not included in the fee. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the ELC at (772) 589-5050.

The Environmental Learning Center is located north of Vero Beach off CR 510 at the western end of the Wabasso Bridge. Its campus includes exhibit areas, native plant gardens, picnic facilities, gift shop, and visitor center.

ELC membership benefits, a list of its many field excursions, EcoVentures, including nature walks, canoe excursions, and boating adventures, can be found at www.DiscoverELC.org.

Admission is $5 per person, children 12 and under free, and ELC members receive free admission year round. The first Saturday of every month is free to all.
