SEBASTIAN — Heart and stroke victims on the Treasure Coast will have access to state-of-the-art cardiac and stroke emergency services as Sebastian River Medical Center teams up with the University of Florida and Shands HealthCare in a new alliance.
“When every second counts, patients can feel assured that our emergency room is not only minutes away, but our top professionals are now linked with UF physicians at Shands, which consistently ranks among the country’s top 50 hospitals,” said Steven Salyer, CEO of Sebastian River Medical Center.
The alliance brings the University’s highly acclaimed doctors, resources, and protocols to the community hospital through the Heart and Stroke Emergency Specialists program.
It allows for teleconferencing consultations between physicians, continuing education, and all other levels of hands-on educational exchange.
“It’s a team approach that translates to better care, better outcomes, and a better overall experience for our patients,” said Bradley Guffin, director of emergency services at Sebastian River Medical Center.
“Cardiac and stroke patients can expect more accurate, in-depth diagnoses, and patients will receive transfer benefits to Shands at UF, Shands HealthCare’s academic medical center, when necessary,” Guffin added.
The alliance also includes Brooksville Regional Hospital, Highlands Regional Medical Center, Pasco Regional Medical Center, Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, Spring Hill Regional Hospital, Venice Regional Medical Center, and Wuestoff Medical Center.
“We have been looking to extend our programs beyond Gainesville, and Sebastian River Medical Center is a highly-ranked facility that is already a certified primary stroke center,” said Tim Goldfarb, CEO of Shands HealthCare. “It’s a great day for patients on the Treasure Coast as two great care-givers join forces.”
