SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Clambake Lagoon Festival is coming, and this year is the famous festival’s 10th Anniversary! In 2002, local Sebastian businessmen Rich Stringer and John King founded the Sebastian Clambake Foundation and created this amazingly successful family event.
Fresh seafood booths, live music, historic re-enactments, the Kid’s Zone, sand volleyball tournament, the Press-Journal Chowder Cook-Off, demonstrations, vendor booths and more, will again be the focus in Sebastian’s Riverview Park from 2 PM to 9PM on Friday, November 2, 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Admission is free – tickets will be sold for food and T-shirts. We have scheduled live music throughout the weekend by the Honey Miller Band, Wild Life with Jungle Brass, 23 Treez, Bobby Coleman and the Coolers, Vintage, Swamp Fox and All About Nothing. Also performing are the Sebastian River High School Drumline, the Atlantic Bell Ringers, and the GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman’s Club Band. And to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we will have 24 tons of snow brought in on Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. to the Kids Zone! This year we’ll also have the Fireman’s Express kiddie train tooting down the road. Off-site parking is available South of the park and at the vacant property next to Sherwin Williams.
The Sebastian Clambake, billed as a “Lagoon Festival”, celebrates our special way of life along the Indian River, which has been the life-blood of our community from the beginning. The lagoon provides our people with recreation, tranquil beauty and has fed our people for generations.
The Festival is known throughout the state for the quality of its food: linguine with red or white clam sauce, peel & eat shrimp, clam chowder, fried fish & clam strips, steamed clams, hand-tossed brick oven pizza, and sausage, pepper & onion sandwiches are our featured culinary delights. And we can’t forget the cold draft beer and sodas!
The Sebastian Clambake Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, organizes the festival, and the proceeds are dedicated to local non-profit capital projects. Volunteers from our local community comprise the entire labor force. The Sebastian Clambake Foundation is comprised of these member organizations: Sebastian Soccer Association, GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman’s Club, Sebastian Elk’s Club, Kashi Ashram, Knights of Columbus, Coastal Florida Public Employees Association, Sebastian River High School Athletic Boosters, Sebastian Property Owner’s Assn., Sebastian Little League, Boys & Girls Club of Indian River County, and the Sebastian River High School Rowing Club. Each member organization has one vote in choosing the beneficiaries.
This year there are five organizations that will benefit from the event: Sebastian Charter Junior High School, HALO Animal Rescue, By the River senior housing, the American Legion, and the Sebastian River High Rowing Club. The Foundation has granted more than $370,000 to local charities thus far.
