VERO BEACH — Get ready to laugh at that “dumb blonde bombshell” Billie Dawn when the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, 2020 San Juan Ave., presents the comedy “Born Yesterday” Jan. 12 to 22. Written by Garson Kanin, this is the third production of the Guild’s All-American Season.
Billie, an unrefined showgirl, is involved with Harry Brock, a coarse junkman millionaire who decides to go to Washington, D.C., in an attempt to expand his empire. Unaware of his own ill-mannered ways, Harry hires a political reporter to sharpen Billie’s “social shortcomings” in order to impress his political clients.
While teaching Billie ladylike behavior, the reporter has his own agenda: exposing government corruption. Billie’s crase association with Harry and her contrasting attempts to act like a “lady” provide continuous comedy as she gains the upper hand on Harry.
