VERO BEACH — Tiger Lily artists, Julia Carter, Shotsi Cain Lajoie, Chris Adams Johnson, Linda Proctor, Sharon Sexton and Glenda Taylor invite the public to their new show titled, ‘Big is Beautiful’, a show of large works. The show opens with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 and will close March 31.
Big is Beautiful is unparalleled for the Tiger Lily artists. The public is invited to see what the artists can do when their work is big.
“As I work a large canvas I find that there is no way to tackle it other than to move with it, around it and through it. I am never in one spot for very long.”, says Julia Carter of her work. One of her new pieces in process is titled, Ooh La La, a vibrant and bold oil painting of the French Riviera, 60″ x 36″.
Continuing her pursuit of large abstract paintings, Shotsi Cain Lajoie says, ‘Helen Frankenthaler passed away recently while I was studying her beautiful paintings for this show. I plan to use her as an inspiration. She always asked herself, “Is it Beautiful” as she neared completion.’ Her canvases measure 72″ x 84″ and 72″ x72″.
Linda Proctor‘s, ‘Black Rhino No. 1′, photographed on a recent safari will be enlarged for the show. ‘There are certain images that are larger than life to me. When my images are almost life size, I feel like I can walk into that scene and convey the moment.’
Ceramicist and painter Sharon Sexton was inspired by dream imagery and will produce large 6ft. embellished figures that begin as cylindrical forms. Her large wall sculptures at Royal Palm Point are already a part of Vero’s landscape. And, Glenda Taylor’s wheel thrown vessels will be much taller and wider with an organic quality.
Making a move to vertical and three dimensional, Chris Adams Johnson’s, new construction of found objects are brightly painted and stacked nearly six feet tall.
A portion of the proceeds of the show will be contributed to Haiti Partners, an organization whose mission is dedicated to help educate children in Haiti.
Tiger Lily is owned and operated by these artists who have a working studio located at 1903 14th Ave., in a historic former church in downtown Vero Beach. Their hours of operation are Tuesday thru Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
