Celebrate Vero’s past with Heritage Rocks! Feb. 18

VERO BEACH — On Saturday, Feb. 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m. the Paris Air hangar at the Vero Beach Airport will be party central for Heritage Rocks! hosted by Vero Heritage, Inc. to benefit the Heritage Center and the Indian River Citrus Museum.

The evening’s festivities will include an All-American BBQ dinner catered by Bono’s, dancing to a great band, Diddley Squat, and music from all the decades, the always popular wine toss, a small select silent auction featuring local businesses, a fantastic sculpted cake courtesy of Pastry Chef Sean Pierce, owner of Carnival Confections, and his partner, Maureen McIntyre, as well as some fun surprises.

Heritage Rocks! will celebrate the many “lives” of this historic building and what it has meant to the community throughout the years. Guests are encouraged, but not required, to wear creative attire representing one of the many eras in the history of the Heritage Center.

The Heritage Center was built in 1935 as the original Community Building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a vital link to the history of our community. Funds generated from this event assist in the preservation of this important landmark which continues to be a center of activity for the community, hosting numerous private events including weddings, meetings and dances as well as public events such as the Hibiscus Festival. Although the building is owned by the City of Vero Beach, preservation and maintenance is the responsibility of Vero Heritage, Inc.

Throughout the 76 years of the life of the building now known as the Heritage Center, it has been utilized for a wide variety of purposes: Community Building (1935-1975), Servicemen’s Center (1943-1945), Physical Arts Center (1975-1990) and the Heritage Center (1991 to present). No matter the use, the building was, and still is, the hub of the community.

Tickets are $60; $110 for two. Reservations must be made in advance at the Heritage Center, 2140 14th Avenue, in the heart of historic downtown Vero Beach, or via e-mail or phone, 772-770-2263 or veroheritage@bellsouth.net.
