Weekend Winners: Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — From a Mad Scientist Party at the Vero Beach Book Center and dance performances on the Waxlax Stage to an exhibit by artist Thelma Koopman at Inlet Wines in Sebastian and an indoor garage sale at the Vero Beach Community Center, there’s much to do this weekend.

Ongoing

  • Vero Beach Museum of Art Summer Art Camp for children ages 4 to 16, offering a choice of 65 morning and afternoon classes in eight week-long sessions.
  • Photographic Art Exhibit “Our Natural World” to benefit the Environmental Learning Center at the Gallery of Hope.org in the Theatre Plaza building in Downtown Vero Beach.
  • Intrepid Art Gallery Summer Group show, curated by Silvia Medina features nine local and international artists.
  • The Sebastian River Art Club presents exotic Chinese watercolor paintings by member Thelma Koopman at Inlet Wines in Sebastian.

Thursday

  • Mulligan’s Christmas in July – please bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. From 5 – 8 p.m. kids eat free and 20% of proceeds are donated to charity.

Friday

  • Bodega Blue Microbrew Sampler, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Sip of the City, Main Street Vero Beach Friday night happy hour party, offering drink specials and themed appetizers.

Friday and Saturday

  • An original performance presented by The Dance Conservatory at Riverside Children’s Theatre Dance Camp will showcase a collaboration of student dancers and instructors. 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday on the Waxlax Stage.

Saturday

  • The Farmer’s Market Oceanside, 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Ocean Drive and Dahlia Lane, across from Humiston Park.
  • Eight-hour Safe Boating Class, begin at 8 a.m., offered by the USCG Auxiliary Flotilla in Fort Pierce.
  • The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department is sponsoring an indoor, air-conditioned garage sale at the Vero Beach Community Center.
  • “Mad Scientist Party” with Miss Julie and other “Mad Scientists” 11 a.m. at the Vero Beach Book Center Children’s Store. Come ‘dressed’ as a Mad Scientist for Science Experiment fun.
  • Andrea Cassell presents Nahima’s Hands – Unique Mediterranean Cuisine, 3 p.m. at the Vero Beach Book Center.

Sunday

  • Waldo’s Christmas in July to benefit Love Doctors Charities – donations of new, unwrapped toys encouraged at each event. Entertainment 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Waldo’s Restaurant, 10 a.m. Poker Run from Waldo’s, and 8:30 a.m. Cathy McCloskey Memorial Golf Tournament at Sandridge Golf Club, concluding with Golf Ball Drop ($20 raffle tickets).
  • Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents “An American Portrait,” 3 p.m. at the Community Church featuring works by American composers Bernstein, Gershwin, Rodgers and Copland. Guest conductor Colonel Hal Gibson will conduct selections from Victory at Sea.
