Leonard O. Eskey, 73, Vero Beach

Leonard O. Eskey, 73, died peacefully March 26, 2011, at the Hospice House in Vero Beach.

Leonard was born in Brooklyn, New York.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sandra; his two children Peter W. Eskey, of Vero Beach and Kim E. Davis, of Highland Village, Texas; two grandchildren, John and Brooke and brother, Dr. Chester W. Eskey.

He was a graduate of Staples High School in Westport, Conn.

He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Miami in civil engineering.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at The Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach, Florida.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
