Peter D. Guzak, 90, Vero Beach

Peter D. Guzak, 90, died Feb. 24, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in East Stroudsburg, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Indian Harbour Beach.

Before retirement, he served 44 years with the government.

He was a veteran of the Air Force and was a lieutenant colonel.

He was a member of the Holy Family Traditional Roman Catholic Church in Melbourne.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne K. Guzak; daughters, Barbara Guzak and Nancy Guzak; sons, John Guzak and William Guzak; brothers, Frank W. Randolph and David J. Guzak; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1506, Vero Beach, FL 32961-1506.

A private burial service will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
