VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its 29th annual Book-Author Luncheon at noon, February 19 at the Vero Beach Country Club, 800 30th Street. The event is open to the public with all proceeds going to college scholarships for women both nationally and at IRSC. Three authors will present their books – MC Finotti, Rody Johnson and Malcolm Mahr. M.C. Finotti is a journalist and writer who lives in Atlantic Beach, Florida. She will present her first novel “The Treasure of Amelia Island”. It is historical fiction for children/young adults about a family living in Florida during the turbulent winter of 1813. In 2009, The Florida Historical Society named “The Treasure of Amelia Island” the best book to teach Florida History to middle school students.
Rody Johnson of West Virginia and Vero Beach will present “The Rise and Fall of Dodgertown: 60 Years of Baseball in Vero Beach”. Beginning with the signing of Jackie Robinson in 1946 and ending with the close of spring training in 2007, “The Rise and Fall of Dodgertown” traces the changes in baseball and society for more than a half century. It is a story of community, passion, and the beauty of an American sport.
Malcolm Mahr of Fort Pierce who started his writing career at the age of seventy has authored six books and has won a Writer’s Digest Award. He will feature his historical fiction “The Secret Diary of Marco Polo”. Against the historical backdrop of an uncovered secret diary of the world’s foremost traveler, Marco Polo, this is a modern day mystery of action, intrigue and conspiracy.
The books will be on sale and authors will be available for signing before and after the luncheon. Gail Helgeson and Carole Strauss are co-chairpersons of the event. Committee members include Barbara Bogart, Linda Clerch, Anne Cunningham, Gail Dailey, Nancy Dunne, Martha Habeshian, and Martha Kucinsky.
The cost to attend is $45, payable AAUW Vero Beach Branch.
