VERO BEACH – Four new faces will now sit on the Vero Beach City Council dais alongside Councilman Brian Heady once they are sworn in today.
From among the five, they must choose who will lead them as their mayor.
According to VeroNews.com’s non-scientific poll, Heady holds a commanding lead for the post with 120 votes of 260 cast by readers.
In second place, with 85 votes, is Tracy Carroll.
Both Jay Kramer and Pilar Turner are tied for third place with 20 votes, while former mayor Craig Fletcher sits in fifth place with 15 votes.
The newcomers to the council will be sworn in at 10 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, which is open to the public.
Carroll, who ran for the 1-year-term seat held by appointed-Councilman Ken Daige, handily beat out incumbent Sabe Abell and fellow challenger Al Benkert, by nearly triple the votes.
Fletcher, Kramer and Turner beat out incumbents Daige and Kevin Sawnick and fellow challengers David Fromang, Richard Kennedy, and Michael Thomas.
Turner received the most votes of those running for the three 2-year-term seats with 2,680 votes.
Fletcher finished second with 1,746 votes and Kramer rounded out the Top 3 with 1,686.
Sawnick and Daige finished in the middle of the pack with nearly 1,500 votes apiece.
Richard Kennedy and Davide Fromang placed near the bottom of the heap with just over 1,300 votes each. Michael Thomas rounded out the list of candidates with 1,159 votes.
