Joseph L. Meuse, 80, Vero Beach

Joseph L. Meuse, 80, of Vero Beach, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1930, in Wakefield, Mass., and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 20 years coming from Margate, N.J. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Meuse retired as Deputy Police Chief in Margate, N.J. He was of Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Irene; three sons, Philip Meuse, of Vista, Calif., John Meuse, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Joseph Meuse, Jr. of Springhill, Fla.; seven brothers; one sister; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

At the request of the family, services will be private.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
