Andrew J. Linn Jr., 82, Vero Beach

Andrew J. Linn Jr., 82, died July 7, 2010, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Dravosburg, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 1973, coming from McKeesport, Pa.

He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, worked in security and worked at the Vero Beach Art Museum for 20 years.

He was a 20-year Navy veteran, serving during World War II and Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia Linn of Vero Beach; daughter, Sandra Linn of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sons, Doug Linn of Forest, Va., and Rick Linn of Vero Beach; and three grandchildren.

No services have been scheduled.

Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
