Laura ‘Mama’ Viamontes, 85, taught in Fellsmere

Laura “Mama” Viamontes, 85, died July 9, 2010.

She was born in Havana and lived in Fort Pierce since 1975. She was a schoolteacher for 25 years in Fellsmere and the owner-operator of the King of Citrus Gift Shop at the Farmers Market, Fort Pierce. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her sons, Rafael Viamontes of Vero Beach, Jorge Viamontes, Jose Viamontes and Victor Viamontes, all of Fort Pierce; brother, Jorge Latour of Vero Beach; sister, Vivian Carta of Wellington; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council.
