Joseph A. Rorick, 91, Vero Beach

Joseph A. Rorick, 91, died June 17, 2010, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Scranton, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 17 years, coming from Boynton Beach. He was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Before retiring, he worked for IBM as director of real estate and construction for 32 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

He was a member of the Notre Dame Club, Vero Beach; the Vero Beach Power Squadron; Elks Lodge 1774, Vero Beach; and the Grand Harbor Club, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy R. Rorick of Vero Beach; eight children; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Interment will be at John’s Island Cemetery, Indian River Shores. A guestbook is available at strunkfuneralhome.com.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
