SEBASTIAN — Plans are underway in resurfacing Powerline Road and installing sidewalks, though they hinge on the Indian River County School Board’s approval.
Sebastian city leaders recently approved spending an extra $9,500 to have its contractor work out a right-of-way agreement with the School Board to allow the work to be done.
The Powerline Road project consists of:
2-lane paving, bike path, sidewalk, stormwater improvements and street light improvements between County Road 512 and Main Street;
2-lane paving, sidewalk, stormwater improvements to Orange Avenue between Powerline and Columbus Street;
Bike path and/or sidewalk improvements along Lime Street between Powerline and Columbus;
Stormwater improvements within the triangular parcel of land bounded by Powerline Road’s existing alignment, the CR 512 north right of way line and the adjacent Sebastian Highlands Unit 1 platted subdivision;
And landscaping improvements along the west side of Powerline Road to provide a buffer for the existing Sebastian Highlands single family lots abutting the property limits.
The City of Sebastian is seeking 1.2 acres of land from the Indian River County School District, which is part of the Sebastian Elementary School property, to realign the triangle between Powerline, CR 512 and the Sebastian Highlands.
The School Board is expected to approve the city’s request at its Tuesday meeting.
“By granting this Right of Way Deed, the Powerline Roadway Improvements Project may be designed in a manner that will benefit the Sebastian Elementary School property by greatly improving traffic flow and pedestrian access,” a memo to the School Board reads.
