VERO BEACH – Several hundred alumni, teachers, parents, friends and general lovers of performing arts gathered at Vero Beach High School in search of hidden treasures.
They didn’t have to look hard or for too long as various performing groups took to the stage of the school’s Performing Arts Center and under a tent outside.
The two-day “Hidden Treasures” Performing Arts Festival, which ran Friday and Saturday, served as a fund-raiser to benefit the school’s performing arts department as well as a way to cap off the school year.
Groups that performed included the Jazz Band, Concerto Competition Winners and the Symphonic Band I – under the direction of Mr. Page Howell, Mr. James Sammons and Mr. Matt Stott – along with the Show Choir, Advanced Choral groups led by Mr. Gregory Harris accompanied by Ms. Karen Wiggins.
The VBHS Competitive Theatre Ensemble, led by Mrs. Dee Rose Imbro, also gave group and individual performances. Those performances included dramatic monologues, Musical Comedy singing and dancing with choreography by Mr. Andrew Currie of Dance Space.
The Symphonic Band II performed as well.
Not everything was about performing during the festival, though, as the Performing Arts Center also became a place to view the visual arts created by students, including paintings, drawings, photography, and pottery.
This festival concluded the 2009-2010 VBHS Performing Arts Season and featured the hard work and dedication of over 400 young musicians, actors and artists.
