Paul Joseph Del Grosso, 54, Vero Beach

Paul Joseph Del Grosso, 54, died May 5, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Chelsea, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from West Palm Beach.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, and the Knights of Columbus. He was former president of the Newport Club. He worked as a mortgage broker for All American Mortgage Lenders.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. Galanto of Vero Beach; sons, Nicco D’Leon Galanto of Vero Beach and Jason Phillip Del Grosso of West Palm Beach; daughter, Jodi Sarah Del Grosso of Vero Beach; sisters, Millie Del Grosso of Vero Beach and Judy Monteiro of Jupiter; and brother, John Del Grosso of Sebring.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Del Grosso Sr. and Eunice Howard Del Grosso.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nicco D’Leon Galanto Education Fund at any Seacoast National Bank.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 7 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon May 8 at St. Helen Catholic Church.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. 11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford. Environmental groups continue lagoon cleanup and education efforts

Even as much of Florida and the world have come to pretty much of a standstill due to COVID-19, local environmental and conservation organizations are still working to clean up the troubled Indian River Lagoon and educate school children and other members of the public about lagoon issues – all while maintaining social distancing. Ocean Research and Conservation Association is conducting its usual suite of environmental monitoring programs – maintaining its Kilroy network of water quality stations around the lagoon and doing other field work.
