John H. Wangler, 89, died April 18, 2010, at Sebastian River Medical Center.
He was born in Chicago and lived in Sebastian for 26 years, coming from Boynton Beach. He retired after 30 years of service in the Navy as a lieutenant.
During the Vietnam War, he earned the following decorations: National Defense Medal, 2 Navy Unit Citation Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church; the Elks Lodge in Delray Beach; the Retired Officers Assn. of Indian River County; and the Sebastian Golf Course Assn., Sebastian.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Hilda Wangler of Sebastian; son, Steven Dufresne of Umatilla; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 22 at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. April 23 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, followed by military honors conducted by the Sebastian Area Veterans Honor Guard.
