Advance Touch a Truck tickets now available

VERO BEACH — Advance tickets to Childcare Resources’ second annual Touch A Truck Family Festival are now available. Touch A Truck Family Festival will be Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Indian River County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for a family up to 6 people. Children under 3 are free. The first 1,000 children in the gate receive a free hard hat.

The event will feature trucks of all sizes for children to touch, sit inside and beep horns; live entertainment including the band Mercury, children’s storyteller Darrell House, Zumba, Vero Cheer; pony rides, hay rides, a children’s trackless train ride; face painting; bounce houses, arts & crafts and games galore.

Food vendors will also be available. All proceeds provide quality childcare and preschool for children of working families in Indian River County.

Woman hurt after truck flips onto home

SEBASTIAN — An unidentified woman was hurt after she was ejected from a truck that veered off the roadway and flipped onto a residence late Sunday, fire rescue crews said. The truck went into the air and hit the side of the garage, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jamie Coleman said. The force of the crash caused the woman to be thrown from the truck, through the windshield and through the garage's window. She was found on the garage floor, where authorities said she landed. No one inside the home was injured, Coleman said. Community Development Department closes in-person services

The Community Development Department closed in-person services Monday as county officials implement more health precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Officials plan to add more physical barriers to the front counters inside the building, which already has temperature scanners installed. County employees and those who visit county facilities are already required to wear masks inside. County Administrator Jason Brown was not immediately available to confirm reports that six employees in the Community Development Department tested positive for the virus.
