VERO BEACH — Public Works Manager Don Dexter said Friday two beachside projects — at Humiston Park and A1A around Riomar Bay II — are in the final stages of completion.Dexter said work at Humiston Park is down to laying sod and some final drainage and touch-up work on the parking lot. Officials had hoped to have the park completed by the end of January, but the cold snap prevented them from obtaining the needed sod.
Dexter said he expects delivery of the sod from the Okeechobee supplier next week. Once the sod is laid, workers will remove the construction fencing that has kept the public from the park.
Workers also need to finish laying some storm drainage pipes in the parking lot and put in some pavers in the area around Corey’s Pharmacy on Ocean Drive. Dexter said all work should be completed by February.
The Riomar Bay II beautification project, funded by a grant from the Department of Transportation, is also just about done.Workers have installed a median and put in most of the landscaping for the project which runs between Tulip and Painted Bunting lanes. All that is left to be added are a few more palm trees, Dexter said.Work on the A1A project started last August and was expected to cost around $300,000. The city landed the $487,100 federal grant for beautification projects several years ago.
