American Red Cross Health & Safety Training calendar

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Classes offered in Health and Safety Training are held at the American Red Cross building located at 2506 17th Avenue.

Infant/Child CPR:  $35 includes student manual, class materials and certification

Time: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Vero Beach classes:  Mon. Feb. 8, Tues. March 9

CPR/AED Professional rescuer and healthcare provider:  $55.00 includes manual, resuscitation mask, class materials, and certification. (2 year Certification).  For firefighters, EMT’s, Nurses, police officers, camp counselors, park rangers or anyone in the general public. CPR/AED for lifeguards (1 year certification).

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Vero Beach classes:  Sat. Feb 6, Sat. March 13

HIV/AIDS/BBP (Blood borne Pathogens:  $25.00 includes student manual, and certification),  Includes an overview of the virus including current statistics and treatment, also answers many questions concerning transmission of the virus and what employers and employees need to know.

Time: 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   Vero Beach classes: Tues. Feb 23,  Thurs. March 25

Adult CPR/AED:  $30.00 includes student manual, class materials and certification.  Certifies participants to administer rescue breathing, emergency techniques for choking, Adult CPR and the basics of automated external defibrillation (AED).

Time: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Vero Beach classes:  Thurs. Jan 21, Thurs. Feb 4, Tues. Feb 16, Tues. March 3, Thurs. March 18, Tues. March 30

Basic First Aid:  $25.00 includes student manual, class materials, and certification (3 year certification).

Time: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Vero Beach classes:  Wed. Feb 3, Thurs. March 4

Basic First Aid plus Adult CPR/AED:  $45.00 includes manual, class materials, and certification

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Vero Beach classes:  Sat. Feb 20.

Babysitting Camp:  $40 for one day and $60 for both days

This one or two day adventure is designed for 11-15 year olds to develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safety play.  Students will receive certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.

SEBASTIAN — An 11th grade student was arrested after an unloaded handgun was found in his backpack Wednesday at Sebastian River High School, school district and sheriff's officials said. Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association recently released its monthly report for the beaches at Jaycee Park, Humiston Park and South Beach Park. Lifeguards said about 54,105 beachgoers flocked to the shore in January. The highest beach-attendance record of 65,700 was set in 2019 for Vero Beach, lifeguards said. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th.
