VERO BEACH — Last year when Martin Lavandar, owner of Blue Ribbon Grooming, learned of a need for supplies to help our four-legged K-9 friends, he gathered some of his two-legged friends and held the first Yappy Hour Benefit Hour. Ti Amo Sempre on South Ocean Drive has joined the cause this year, and will be the location, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, of the second annual Yappy Hour Benefit Hour to raise money to purchase additional bullet-proof vests for Indian River County Sheriff’s Department K-9s and pet oxygen masks for the Indian River County Fire Department.
Through last year’s event and throughout this past year, with the help of Waves Car Wash and Suntrust Bank, they have raised more than $3,000 and were able to purchase eight custom-made vests. They are hoping through this event to raise enough to also purchase sets of small, medium and large pet oxygen masks for each of the county’s Fire Rescue Stations.
The event will include an exciting demonstration of the K-9 dogs in action and additional entertainment. There will be a cash bar with a percentage going to the cause, and hors d’oeuvres will be served. There is no charge to attend the Yappy Hour, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
Suntrust has an open account for donations under the name Blue Ribbon Benefit, which can be made at any branch if you can’t make the Yappy Hour.
If you have raffle or auction items you’d like to donate, contact Martin Lavander at (772) 559-9893 or Blue Ribbon Grooming at (772) 567-2123.
