Barbara Morgan Standifer, 71, died Jan. 22, 2010, in Port St. Lucie.
She was born in Americus, Ga., and lived in Vero Beach for 39 years, coming from her birthplace. She retired after 35 years of combined service to education.
She was a member of the Ministers Spouses of the South Florida AME Church conference and Mount Zion AME Church and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She graduated from Gifford High School in 1958 and was a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and Nova University.
Survivors include her mother, Christine Morgan of Vero Beach; son, Ramon Portier of Orlando; daughters, Evelyn Hayes of Vero Beach and Antoinnete Owens of Antioch, Tenn.; brothers, Clyde Morgan and James Morgan, both of Tallahassee, Richard Morgan of Vero Beach, and Dean Mosley of Orlando; sisters, Gloria Johnson of Fort Pierce, Vera Byrd of West Palm Beach, Calinthia Simmons of Pontiac, Mich., and Joycelyn Darrisaw of Vero Beach; and four sisters.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Morgan Sr.; sisters, Yvette McDougall and Janet Mosley; and brother, Toby Ware.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 29 at Mount Zion AME Church in Gifford. A service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 at First Church of God in Vero Beach.
Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hortense/Mills Memorial Funeral Home.
