Mary Caravella, 91, of Jupiter, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at the Palm Beach Medical Center.Mrs. Caravella was born June 4, 1917 in Brooklyn and moved to Vero Beach in 1976 from her place of birth before relocating to Palm Beach. She had been a teacher before her retirement and was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.Survivors include her nephews Paul LoSchiavo and Carl LoSchiavo.She was pre-deceased by her husband Vincent Caravella.A graveside service will take place 3 PM, Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Mausoleum of Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce.Local arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.  Condolences may be sent through www.seawindsfh.com/obit.php

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
