Cloyd Leslie Elias, 92, of Vero Beach, died Aug. 9, 2009, in Vero Beach. Cloyd was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Roaring Spring, Pa., to Ira and Margaret Elias.
Cloyd married Marthabel Spade in 1940 and she passed away in 1997 after 56 years of marriage. In 2002, he married Lillian Tangel. He moved from Stone Ridge, N.Y., in 1972 to Vero Beach. He was cofounder of S & E Corporation and he retired from Becton Dickinson and Company as Vice President of the Animal Sciences Division in 1972. Cloyd was a member of the Treasure Coast Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, Kingston Lodge #10 F & A M, New York Academy of Sciences for more than 50 years, past president of the Vero Beach Country Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, American Welsh Society, United Commercial Travelers and many others.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; daughter, Gail L. Elias, of Lafayette, Colo.; sister, Margaret Garis, of Richmond, Va.; step-daughters, Judith Sims, of Alachua; Donna Krieger, of Collinsville, Ill.; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marthabel; brothers, Paul and Gerald; and a sister, May Oster.
Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach on Aug. 15, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House of Vero Beach or Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches.
