Mary C. Campbell, Vero Beach
Mary C. Campbell, of Alpine, N.J., and Vero Beach, died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 1, 2018, surrounded by all her family.
She is survived by her three children, Cathy, Barbara and Charles, their spouses Bob Rodriguez and Doug Kopec; and her five grandchildren, Dillon, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Braden and Liam.
Mrs. Campbell loved her gardening, sailing, and needlepoint, and was a devoted grandmother.
Charity work for many decades at both the Women’s Auxiliary Gift Shop of what was then the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and the Humane Society Thrift Shop of Vero Beach were also important parts of her life.
She was an Alpine resident for over 50 years and a Vero Beach resident for over 35 years.
Her husband, Dr. Charles J. Campbell, an ophthalmologist at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center predeceased her in 2007.
She will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service was held.

Charlotte “Ann” Lackey, Sebastian
Charlotte “Ann” Lackey, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, surrounded by her husband and children.
Ann was born on Dec. 4, 1938, to Charles and Charlotte Wolfe in Dayton, Ohio, where she grew up.
She became a registered nurse and eventually worked at two nursing homes, where she was the charge nurse. She also did in-home, private duty care. She met her husband-to-be, Terry, at the Hasty Tasty restaurant in Dayton. Terry said, “That’s the kind of gal I’d like to marry,” and that’s what they did on May 7, 1959. Four children came along: Scott, Steve, Suzanne, and Matthew.
In 1978 the family moved to Boca Raton, Fla., and in 1998 to Sebastian.
Ann was well-known for her quiet and meek demeanor and she had a heartfelt compassion for others. She also had a quick and clever wit.
In addition to her love for her family, Charlotte loved studying the Bible. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1972 and was active for the rest of her life sharing Bible truths with others.
Ann is survived by her husband, Terry Lackey; four children, Scott Lackey (wife, Jacque), of Sebastian; Steve Lackey (wife, Wendy), of Sebastian; Suzanne O’Brien (husband, Michael), of Vero Beach; and Matthew Lackey (wife, Dione), of Land O’ Lakes; seven grandchildren, Amber Haraldsen, Steven and Andrew Sponholtz, Austin and Alaxandria Lackey, and Xavier and Tatiana Cantu; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Reni, and Ryland Haraldsen; and Kristina and Steven Sponholtz; her sister, Judy Schriml, of Centerville, Ohio; and her brother, Charles Wolfe, of Miamisburg, Ohio.
The family is having private funeral arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, aids, and staff of VNA Hospice of Vero Beach, who provided wonderful in-home care and support.

Olive Ann Maloney, Vero Beach
God called an angel home when Olive Ann Maloney passed quietly in her sleep while surrounded by her loving family. Born June 28, 1922, Olive was a native of Staten Island, N.Y.
It was there she met and married her true love, Francis Joseph Maloney. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to their only daughter Barbara Ferrall.
While living in Staten Island, she was an active member of the Catholic Church. Olive & Frank became residents of Vero Beach in the early 1980s, where they avidly enjoyed the Florida sunshine with friends and family until his passing in 1984.
She is survived by her favorite granddaughter, Trish Heck (husband, Mark); grandson, John Ferrall (wife Joy); five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alexis, Megan, Jackson and Riley; and great-great-granddaughter, Reese.
Visitation will be held for Olive on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Strunk Funeral Home from 10-11:30 a.m., 916 17th Street, Vero Beach.
Mass will be held at St Helen Catholic Church at Noon, 2025 20th Ave., Vero Beach.
Burial will follow immediately after mass at Crestlawn Cemetery.
Michael Martin McCabe, Vero Beach
Michael Martin McCabe, born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Nov. 12, 1948, departed from us in body, but not in spirit on Sept. 1, 2018, at VNA Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Michael attended and graduated, Augusta Military Academy and Kent State University. He moved to Vero Beach in the ’80s where he was able to apply and nurture his true life calling, as a community caregiver and supporter.
The son of William S. McCabe Jr., MD, and Anne Teslovich McCabe, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Shay McCabe, of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his daughter, Erin McCabe of Crested Butte, Colo.; son, Nicholas Perry McCabe and daughter in law Melody Anne McCabe with grandchildren Gavin Andrew McCabe, Madilyn Anne McCabe and Elliott Shayne McCabe of Vero Beach; sisters, Irene Ann & Sharon Rose McCabe both from Pittsburgh, Pa.; niece, Mercedes Bigelow of Orlando; The Mahoney Family of Catonsville, Md., the Teslovich Family of Donora, Pa., and the Perry Sisters of Pompano Beach, Fla.
Michael will primarily be mourned and remembered by family, friends, and the larger community of Vero Beach and the Treasure Coast where he lived in fellowship for over 30 years, building and managing many community projects for Proctor Construction Company.
Prior to starting his career in construction in the 1970s, which focused on Correctional facilities throughout the country and before moving to Vero Beach, Michael explored several odd ball jobs as a younger man in Pittsburgh, Pa.
These jobs ranged from a farmer to working at the XYZ zipper factory, GM factories, and he even moved pianos and houses. All told, he contributed over 100 community facilities totaling over 1 billion dollars. Although Michael previously had the opportunity to work on numerous high profile projects all over the world, he knew his heart did not belong there, rather it belonged at home where he could make a lasting and positive impact for his community and friends.
If you asked Michael what project in his career would he be most proud of, it would not be the most expensive or elaborate, but rather the most cherished and utilized by his community.
One of Michael’s most proud projects was the successful renovation of the entire campus of Vero Beach High School, which was accomplished while over several thousand students safely continued their educational efforts, roaming the halls and occupied the campus for a normal school year.
Some of his fonder projects included the Vero Beach Museum of Arts & The Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, North County Aquatic Center, numerous Indian River State College facilities and most local schools.
Michael is proud to leave a legacy of safe and strong buildings for the community of the Treasure Coast.
Whenever possible, Michael was always present at his grandchildren’s sports games and practices, always supporting them. His favorite tradition was making sure they had the biggest and best Christmas tree every year. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Gardening, Golfing, Fishing and Sports. Michael was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers fan and was present at several of the City’s Championships.
Lastly, it was Michael’s gift to work toward community and fellowship as a Friend of Bill and in turn to be enriched by their faith and good will. Michael was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years. He was a member of Noontime Recovery group before moving to Sebastian and making Club Sebastian his new home group.
It was Michael’s gift to work with others in need and he helped many young men find a life of sobriety and fulfillment Michael was one of the most SELFLESS men anyone could ever meet and truly made the world a better place, not for him, but for YOU and I. He is a treasure that will be cherished and truly missed.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Celebration of Michael’s Life will begin at 6:30.
