Police search for Vero Beach man last seen on Sunday

VERO BEACH — Officers are looking for a 23-year-old man who they said was last seen leaving his family’s restaurant business earlier this week. Police said Liu Y. Zhao was driving a grey 2019 Honda HR-V and was possibly in central Florida.

“According to family, Mr. Zhao has made suicidal statements and has recently joined a suicide thread on Steam, (an online gaming platform),” Vero Beach police said in a statement. “Mr. Zhao’s phone is currently off, however was last pinging in the Orlando area.”

Family members last spotted Zhao about 9:45 p.m. Sunday leaving Chef Lins Asian Buffett, located in the 1800 block of U.S. 1 in Vero Beach. Police released an image on social media of Zhao, along with the car he was traveling in. The car’s tag number is LYTT13.

The Flock Safety license plate reader system last tracked the vehicle about 7:46 a.m. Monday headed westbound on U.S. Route 192, police said. Zhao was described as 5-feet 7-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with black hair.
