VERO BEACH — A body in the advanced stages of decomposition was discovered Wednesday in the Riomar neighborhood on the barrier island, prompting a death investigation, police said. Details on the incident were limited.
The body was found shortly before noon in the 2000 block of Cove Drive, a heavily landscaped private road of ultra-luxury homes on the river just west of State Road A1A, police officials said. The location is about 1.3 miles northwest of South Beach Park and a half mile south of the Quail Valley River Club.
Officers have not yet been able to identify the body because of the severe decomposition.
The body will be turned over to the medical examiner’s office, said Officer Kelsea Callahan, a spokesperson for the Vero Beach Police Department. Police officials did not discuss if the death was possibly connected to any recent cases.
“At this time, the investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released pending further investigative efforts,” police officials said in a statement.
No further details were immediately available.
