(Vero Beach, FL) Riverside Theatre for Kids presents a comical summer of musicals for the whole family with Annie JR., June 13-14, and two weekends of Annie KIDS, June 20-21 & 27-28, 2025.
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Riverside Theatre for Kids will present two adaptations of Annie – Annie JR., a 60-minute version of the full-length Broadway musical, and Annie KIDS, a 30-minute production of the original musical.
“We’re excited to present these great shows for the family,” said Kevin Quillinan, Director of Theatre Education at Riverside and Director of these productions. “Annie is such a popular show that we were thrilled at the response by young performers who wanted to participate. We had so many audition for Annie KIDS, we were able to have two full casts.
“Music Theatre International (MTI) does a great job in condensing full-length Broadway productions into 60 and 30-minute versions keeping the story and most of the songs intact as well as adjusting the musical notes to better showcase younger voices.
“We are thrilled to present these productions and let the young performers in the casts shine on the Stark Stage.”
Annie JR. is performed by students aged 11-18.
Annie KIDS is performed by students aged 6-11.
