Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital has filled a number of vacant positions by picking up 28 employees from a Brevard hospital that its parent company also acquired as part of the $439 million deal that brought Orlando Health to Indian River County last fall.
The employees were among 900 impacted when Orlando Health decided following the three-hospital purchase that the 84-year-old Central Brevard facility formerly known as Wuesthoff Medical Center had major structural and safety issues too costly to fix, and decided to demolish it and sell the land.
“When we announced the hospital closure, we also committed that all Rockledge Hospital team members in good standing were guaranteed positions within the organization. Four-hundred twenty-nine team members have accepted positions within Orlando Health,” said Orlando Health spokesperson Katie Mitzner.
She said 28 of the Wuesthoff team members had been transferred to Sebastian. There was no immediate word on what type of positions these employees filled.
Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital is a 178-bed comprehensive medical and surgical facility serving Indian River and South Brevard counties for more than 50 years. Specialties offered include emergency care, heart and vascular care, orthopedics and surgical services.
When asked whether Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, the other major hospital in Indian River County, hired any of the Wuesthoff physicians, nurses or other employees to work in Vero, Cleveland Clinic Florida Senior Director of Corporate Communications Nancee Long said, “While we don’t track where our caregivers previously worked, Cleveland Clinic remains a top choice for healthcare professionals across the Treasure and Space Coast.
“Our stability, supportive environment, and commitment to excellence continue to attract dedicated caregivers who share our mission,” she added.
