Mary, born in Turkey on April 17, 1921, has lived a life defined by resilience, creativity, and generosity.
A devoted wife and mother to two sons, Mary first visited the United States in 1956 and dreamed of one day making it her permanent home. That dream became reality when she immigrated in 1966 and proudly became a United States citizen. She went on to build a successful career with McCall’s Magazine Company as a designer of women’s dresses, with several of her designs featured on magazine covers. A talented seamstress, Mary created her own wardrobe in the latest styles and was equally admired for her exceptional cooking, frequently hosting dinner parties where guests eagerly requested her recipes.
After the passing of her husband, Nazif, Mary continued channeling her creativity by designing stylish handbags and jewelry from her home. Her generous spirit shined through her later years as she knitted approximately 600 scarves for individuals experiencing homelessness in Northern states, shipping them to organizations serving those in need.
Mary has been a cherished member of the Sodalis Vero Beach community since 2024, inspiring residents and staff alike with her grace, creativity, and kindness. In celebration of her remarkable life, the community will host a special birthday celebration today, April 15 at 2:30 PM at Sodalis Vero Beach.
