Jean Hogan Tanner, 94, Vero Beach
August 8, 1929 – August 21, 2023
“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine.” Jean Hogan Tanner, 94, formerly of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Vero Beach, FL. Much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a powerful example of humility, grace and faith.
Jean was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Lynch Station, VA, to the late Howard and Christine Carter Hogan. The third of seven siblings, all of whom pre-deceased her, Jean was valedictorian and President of the Class of 1947, Altavista (VA) High School. She began a career as a secretary, working in both the insurance and legal fields, before meeting the love of her life, Lester W. Tanner. They were married Feb. 5, 1954, and Jean followed him as he began his military service.
She was a proud Army wife and active in Officers’ Wives Clubs on the many bases where they were stationed. Each of their five children were born at different locations throughout the U.S. and abroad. Wherever she traveled, she and her husband made sure to find a church home where they could bring up their children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)
Her faith was her cornerstone. In addition to rearing her family, she enjoyed volunteering as a poll worker in Campbell County, VA, for many years. She was a talented seamstress, creating formal gowns and designing her own matching dress and hat ensemble for the occasion of meeting President Lyndon Johnson in the White House. She was skilled at hand-smocking and fashioned dozens of lovely outfits for her grandchildren.
Jean and Lester returned to Virginia to finish his military career and eventually retired to Lynchburg, VA, where they were active members of Thomas Road Baptist Church and Timberlake Baptist Church for more than 33 years.
In 2013, she and Lester followed many of their children to warmer weather and settled in Vero Beach, FL, where they joined Faith Baptist Church. Jean especially enjoyed sharing the stories of the many missionaries she met throughout her life. She was a strong supporter of mission work and every effort to declare the Gospel of Christ to the world.
Jean is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 70 years, Lester, of Vero Beach, FL, and a large extended family of five children, 20 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by two grandsons, Timothy and Travis Tanner. Her proud children include Laura (Jeffrey) Southard of Vero Beach, FL; Terry (Kelly) Tanner of Avon, NC; Alan Tanner of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Pamela (Payton) Poole of Hattiesburg , MS; and Paul (Christie) Tanner of Vero Beach, FL.
The family would like to thank special friends Lynn Bennett, Deidre Harrell, Judy Bingham, and Beverly Moon, all of Vero Beach, for their loving care of Jean.

Rachel Diane Bourdon, 46, Indian River County
June 2, 1977 – August 22, 2023
Rachel Diane Bourdon, 46, of Indian River County, passed away on Tuesday August 22nd, 2023, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Rachel was born on June 2nd, 1977, in Vero Beach, FL to Raymond S. & Wanda Beers. As the middle child of 13 children, she grew up with an abundance of love and laughter. As a student at Vero Beach High School, Rachel greatly enjoyed her time in the high school band, playing clarinet and mastering her drum major skills.
Upon graduation in 1995, she soon after married her husband, Scott Bourdon. During their 25 years of marriage, they had 3 wonderful children Katie, Sophie & Scotty Jr. All currently residing in Vero Beach, FL.
Throughout her life with her family, friends, church and career of local fine dining Chef, Rachel was always the first to step up when there was work to be done. Service was the center of her very being and what most people thought of when hearing her name. In her most recent years she enjoyed any activity in the water, spending most of her time off in a kayak on the Indian River Lagoon.
Rachel is survived by her spouse; Scott Bourdon, children; Katie, Sophie & Scotty Jr., parents; Raymond S. & Wanda Beers, mother-in-law; Josie Downs, siblings; Susan Peterson, Mike Kremkau, Michelle Hamblin, Kim Mackey, Tonya Ahlstrom-Budd, Anna Sangbush, Sara Kirkham, Sam Beers, David Beers, Leslie Kubesh & Julie Pulido. As well as numerous Brothers & Sisters-in-law and over 50 Nieces & Nephews. She was predeceased by her youngest sister Jennifer Nicole Beers in 2009.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday August 26th, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3980 12th St, Vero Beach, FL 32960. There will be a viewing from 10:30 a.m. to the start of the service at 11:30 a.m. A lunch reception will be held at the church building following the gravesite dedication (about 1:15pm).

Emma Vaserman, 98, Vero Beach
August 25, 1925 – August 26, 2023
Emma Vaserman, passed away on August 26, 2023 at the age of 98. Emma was born on August 25, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Luisa and Ignacio Valle. Even without a formal degree, Emma had varying careers from executive assistant, travel agent, Macy’s salesperson, and most importantly mother of Chaia Cirillo. Emma volunteered as docent for Vizcaya in Miami for 15 years and at the Vero Beach Museum of Art for 5 years.
Emma lived Chicago, Cuba, Miami and moved to Vero Beach in 2002 after the passing of her husband for 50 years, Jose Vaserman. She moved to be closer to her daughter, grandchildren, and eventual great grandchildren. She was a hard worker who enjoyed hunting for a bargain. She loved traveling, reading and cards. She was a proud mother, supportive grandmother, and loving abuela.
Emma is survived by her favorite and only daughter Chaia Cirillo, son- in-law Rick Cirillo, two grand daughters Megan Greco and Melissa Cirillo, and her two great grand daughters Gabriella and Sofia Greco. She is greatly loved and will be missed.
There will be a private service for the family.
