Dorothy Helen Silvero, 87, Florida
January 9, 1935 – November 17, 2022
Dorothy Helen Silvero, age 87, passed away quietly on November 17, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born in Basel, Switzerland on January 9, 1935. She moved to the U.S. after graduating from college in Switzerland. She started in Texas and traveled through the states before she went to Florida, where she met the love of her life, Pedro Silvero, on the polo fields. They married and had their two sons, Peter and Daniel, before moving to Virginia and then upstate New York. They lived there for years training polo horses and maintaining a farm until the boys went off to college and the military.
They returned to Florida in 1986 when Daniel was injured in a diving accident. She will be remembered as a kind and selfless person, and a loving mother and grandmother. She provided exceptionally committed care to Daniel over the years. She also worked as an LPN and remained active in a quilting club and the Lakewood Park Methodist Church. She was an accomplished artist and worked with oil, watercolor, and charcoal. She enjoyed spinning wool and weaving on a loom.
Dorothy was a passionate animal lover, accomplished quilter, painter, photographer, equestrian, and cook. Dorothy enjoyed hiking and being outdoors. She loved all things Swiss, fine art, classical music, and spending time with her family.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Silvero, parents Paul and Helena Merian, brothers Ernest and Peti, and step-son John Silvero, and son-in-law Joseph Strazzulla.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel and Peter, step-daughter Jane Strazzulla, daughter-in-law Beth, grandchildren Eva and Nicolas, and sisters Elsbeth Keller and Rosemarie Testa-Merian, both of Zurich, Switzerland.
There will be a memorial service at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach at noon on Friday, November 25, 2022.

Charles Edward Reid, 71, passed away on November 26, 2022 in the city of Melbourne, FL, where he had resided for several years. He was born in Onslow County, North Carolina, on February 1, 1951 to Edward Harold Reid, Jr and Martha (Sisk) Baisden. He spent most of his life living along the east coast of Florida, enjoying fishing, boating, and other outdoor pursuits. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, stepfather Adona Baisden, sister Lois Reid, and brother Ben Hensley. He is survived by a handful of cousins scattered around the country, and various friends in Florida. A private burial at sea is planned for a later date. Jennifer Marie Clarkson, 61, Pembroke Pines
April 18, 1961 – October 18, 2022
Jennifer Marie Clarkson, 61, was born to Arthur B. and Pamella M. (nee Gray) Clarkson on April 18, 1961 in Kingston, Jamaica. The family migrated to the USA in 1978 and resided in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She attended the University of Florida from which she graduated in 1983.
Jennifer was an active member of her community including the Miami Shores and Vero Beach Community Churches, Broward County Board of the American Cancer Society, and the Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce. Before relocating to Vero Beach, Florida in 2019 Jennifer owned and operated “An Elegant Affair Gourmet Caterers.”
Jennifer passed away following a short illness on October 18, 2022 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. A celebration service will be held on Friday December 9, 2022 at 1:00pm at The Community Church, 1901 23rd Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. A reception will immediately follow on the church’s campus.
Jennifer is survived by her Mom Pamella, sister Sharon Grant, nieces Tiffany Cox and Tatiana Hardy, Grandnephews Andrew, Aiden, and Garrett, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
Donations can be made to The VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach.
Jennifer will be forever loved and remembered.

Tamra J. Carlsward, 59, from Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022. Tammy was born on April 3, 1963, in Coral Gables, Florida, to Richard Dole and A. Arlene Raymond. On August 31, 1984, she married her high school sweetheart, Stephen A. Carlsward. They raised two daughters, Stephanie and Sarah.
Tammy had a love of nature, especially animals, the beach, and horticulture. She loved nothing better than the challenge of rehabbing an orchid and getting to watch it bloom. She was known for her kind and compassionate heart and adventurous and outgoing spirit.
Tammy was proceeded in death by her father, Richard, her mother, A. Arlene, and her brother, William. She is survived by her husband, Stephen, her two daughters, Stephanie and Sarah, her brothers, Darren and Richard, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Winter Beach Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Vero Beach, Florida, 32967, on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 12-noon. Flowers may be sent to Strunk Funeral Home at 916 17th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Jane R. Miles, 92, Vero Beach
April 6, 1930 – December 5, 2022
Jane R. Miles, 92, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully on Monday December 5, 2022 at her home in Vero Beach. Jane was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Albert W. Ott and Esther Shook Ott and she grew up on Warrington Ave. in the city’s Allentown business district. She was married to Joseph F. Miles in 1954 and they retired to Vero Beach in 1990 after living in Apollo, PA and Williamsport, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband and by sisters, Rose Frey, Vera Ott, Mary Schneider, and brother Al Ott.
Jane worked as a bookkeeper and executive secretary and later in life she enjoyed “working” in the ticket office for the LADodgers at Dodgertown in Vero Beach. She had a deep circle of lifelong friends that endured the tests of time and distance as well as many friends that she made later in life in Vero Beach. She was an active member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. In addition to her faithful attendance, Jane was a member of St. Helen’s Lady Bug Arts and Crafts Group, through which she was able to share her many artistic talents. She thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with her friends from church, those from Dodgertown, and those that she played cards, bingo, and mahjong with for many, many years. Throughout her life, her family and her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother were always her top priorities.
Survivors include children Michael Miles (Jennifer) of Cumming, GA, Kathleen Miles Dunmire (Joel) of Vero Beach, FL, Dan Miles of Knoxville, TN, and Alan Miles of Butler, PA. She was a beloved “Memaw” to grandchildren Chris Miles (Jessica) of San Juan Capistrano CA, Allison Miles Lee (Junsup) of Dallas, TX, and Kimberly McCarroll of Miami, FL; and great-granddaughters Kaila Canon of Rising Sun, MD and Olive Miles of San Juan Capistrano, CA. In addition, she is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many friends that she considered to be members of her extended family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, with reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus, 923 19th Place, Vero Beach. William “Willie” Harold Gerhart, 76, Vero Beach
May 30, 1946 – December 2, 2022
William “Willie” Harold Gerhart of Vero Beach, Florida passed away suddenly on December 2, 2022 at the age of 76, in Orlando surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania May 30, 1946, to the late Arthur W. and Helen (Gross) Gerhart and Shirley M (Wieder) Gerhart.
He learned the plumbing trade with Rittenhouse and Sons, and then went on to open his own business, Willie’s Heating and Plumbing. Later he owned and operated Willie’s Oil in Quakertown. Willie loved to make people laugh and always had something up his sleeve to put a smile on your face. Willie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him, and his face lit up when they entered the room. Willie also loved to dance and hang out with his friends at the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife Pauline Angstadt Gerhart, a grandson Kasie Angstadt-Okpe, and a sister Marian.
He was the father to Paula Gerhart Lapinski and her husband Mark of Bethlehem, PA, Darren Gerhart of Quakertown, PA, and Christine Angstadt of Vero Beach, FL. His grandchildren Cassandra and Alexis Lapinski, TroiAnn, Alden, and Derek Gerhart, Reece and Chase Daniels, Shaiquil Parker, Alizae Simonette, and Kadija Foster. His three great grandchildren Zyana Simonette, Kai Parker, and James Fox. Willie is also survived by his siblings Arthur E. Gerhart, Richard Gerhart, and wife Jeannie, Leroy Gerhart and wife Diane, Linda Hinkle and husband Torry, Sharon Everett and husband Don, Faith Suelke and husband Dennis.
Willie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Friends and family may gather to remember Willie at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach from 3:00pm to 4:00pm Friday December 9, 2022. Funeral Service will begin at 4:00pm with Pastor Richard Demsick officiating.

Camille Elizabeth Gibson, 24, of Vero Beach, FL, beloved daughter of Allison Marie Smith and Robert Edward Gibson passed away on December 5, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. Camille was born October 12, 1998 in Orlando, FL. She was a graduate of Vero Beach High School and earned an Associate of Arts degree at Indian River State College, graduating with honors.
Camille was a true original. Her unique personality was unforgettable, and she left an impression on everyone she came across. She was very artistic and excelled at everything she attempted. A kind soul, she was encouraging to others and a lover of animals. Her dream was to become an astronaut, and her hobbies included astronomy, astrology and photography.
Camille is survived by her three sisters, Cailin, Amelia, and Sarah and her brother Richie, as well as her step-father Richard Claudio; grandparents Martha Adkinson (Harry Wuest, III), Nicholas Smith Sr., and Patricia Martin (Duncan); her uncles Nick Smith Jr. (Hande), Mike Smith (Lei), Gary Wuest (Danielle), Roy Claudio (Dawn), and Chris Martin (Carlee), aunts Debi Rhoades (Guy), Rose Claudio, Hope Walker, and Heather Lotti, as well as many cousins & extended family. She is preceded in death by her uncles Jose Claudio and Robert Claudio.

Michael Edward Catanzaro Jr., 87, Vero Beach
September 13, 1935 – December 6, 2022
Michael Edward Catanzaro Jr., age 87, of Vero Beach, FL formerly of Darien, CT, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Ida (nee Gismondi) and Michael Edward Catanzaro. Upon graduation from Central Catholic High School, Mike received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1957 and his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law with honors in 1962. He began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA, and later moved to Darien, CT where he was Assistant General Counsel for General Time in Stamford, CT. In 1970, Mike joined Texaco Inc. where he was Senior Attorney negotiating oil exploration contracts in the Middle East. His career in the Middle East spanned over 30 years where he developed lifelong friendships and was highly respected in the region.
He was active in many organizations which included being a past President of the Westchester/Fairfield (Counties) Corporate Counsel Association, past Board member and Vice President of Texaco -Saudi Star Enterprises, past President of Noroton Manor Association, Member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Maryland Bar Association, past Board Member of the Hope for Families Center Inc. in Vero Beach and member of the Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach.
Mike met the love of his life of 61 years, his wife Kathleen (nee McKeever), at a fall football weekend at the University of Notre Dame. Mike and Kathleen raised their family in Darien, CT where they enjoyed membership at Country Club of Darien. Later moved to Vero Beach, FL where they have been members of Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club for 21 years.
He was a devoted and adored father and grandfather and is survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Phelps (Steve) and Michael Edward III (Ellen) and four granddaughters, Elizabeth, Katherine, Marguerite and Claire.
Over the years, Mike enjoyed many passions including golf, tennis, paddle tennis, walks on the beach and cycling. He had two lucky holes in one that were both celebrated in Ireland.
Above all else, Mike loved his devoted wife who never left his side. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit and sparkling smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents Luis and Felicitas and the love of her life Emilio. She is survived by her children Maria, Esther (Arnulfo), Emilio Jr. (Letty), Liliana (Arcadio) and Luis (Josie). Grandchildren Lupita, Claudia, Emilio 3, Elian, Lizet, Arcadio Jr., Aaron, Dhanika, Khleo. Her great grandchildren Ezra, Yareli, Brayam, Jaysen, Arcadio 3, J’Isaiah. Two brothers and 6 sisters.

Preceded in death by his sisters Lila Roehner and Muriel Kusz, his brother Earl Roehner and his grandson, Robert Blankenberg, Jr.
Survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roehner was a veteran of the Korean War, and past Chairman of the Alden, NY Republican Committee.

Jean Donaghue Katarincic, 91, Vero Beach

Jean Donaghue Katarincic – devoted wife, loving mother and adoring grandmother – passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022, at her home in Vero Beach, Florida. She was 91 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Anthony Katarincic, and her family takes comfort knowing that Jean and Joe are now again together in their eternal rest.
Born in Chicago, Jean was raised in Pittsburgh by her parents Frank and Rose Donaghue and enjoyed a close, lifelong bond with her two sisters, Mary Ellen Ploeger who survives her and the late Rosanne Grogan. After completing her education Jean embarked on her teaching career, and found great satisfaction introducing elementary school students to her deep passion -reading. In the early 1960’s Jean met and married Joe Katarincic – then a rising young star in the Pittsburgh legal community – and together they embarked on an extraordinary life partnership focused on their family, faith and community. Through her words and even more powerfully her actions, Jean led a life built around humility, hard work, self-sacrifice and a concern for others. Among the beneficiaries of these life principles were first and foremost her family along with the innumerable schools and charities to whom Jean gave her time and energy over the course of her life. In recent years, Jean and Joe spent the winters in Vero Beach and the summers in Rhode Island, enjoying the company of their children and grandchildren, and also reading the latest new book releases at a truly impressive pace. And as a Pittsburgh native, Jean was a steadfast football fan, and relished every opportunity to cheer for her hometown Steelers.
Jean is survived by her children: Julie Katarincic and Chris Breen, Jay and Autumn Katarincic, and Jim Katarincic, as well as her five grandchildren: Conor and Courtney Breen, and Jack, Molly and Charlie Katarincic. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any contributions be made to Holy Family Institute in Pittsburgh. Burial will be private. Finally, the Katarincic family extends their deep thanks to the compassionate caregivers in Rhode Island and Florida that cared for their mother and grandmother, in particular during her final days.

Michael Joseph Kennedy, 65, Vero Beach
July 25, 1957 – December 10, 2022
Michael Joseph Kennedy of Vero Beach went home to the Lord on December 10, 2022 in his loving home surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 25, 1957 in Duluth, Minnesota and raised in Holliston and Barnstable, Massachusetts with his parents, Jean and Joe and his brothers and sisters.
Mike raised his two sons, Michael and Matthew on Cape Cod and married the love of his life, Margaret Kennedy on July 15, 2001 and became a second father to her daughters, Christina, Nicole, Mariel and Catherine.
He was a hard-working man who took pride in his ability to provide for his family. He was an extremely gifted woodworker for 40 years and this gift continues on with his son Matthew. Most of Mike’s work is in homes throughout Massachusetts, especially Cape Cod.
In 2010 Mike and Margaret had enough of the cold weather and moved to Vero Beach where Mike continued creating works of art from wood until the very end of his life.
Mike made friends easily and was a man whom everyone loved. This was truly evident during the last four and half months as God surrounded him with the love and support of his family and dear friends.
He loved Jesus and he was grateful of his loving family and friends. He enjoyed tuna fishing in his younger years and golf as he matured.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his sons, Michael and his wife, Marie, and Matthew and his wife Erika; his daughters Christina, Nicole and her husband Christopher, Mariel, and Catherine and her husband Domenic. He took great pride in being the grandfather to Sadie, Myla and Cayden Kennedy, Heron Kennedy, Elijah and Angela Beasley and Owen Vardakis and Noah Carcia, and Nick and Donovan Carcia. He is also survived by his brothers Joseph and Thomas Kennedy and his sisters Kathy Kulacz, Christine Capello, and Mary Caprio. Mike leaves many nieces, nephews and friends he held dear. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret Jean and Joseph Emmanuel Kennedy.
A celebration of his life will be held at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach on January 7th at 10 am.

Mr. William Bert Wilkerson of Sebastian, FL passed away on December 2, 2022, at the age of 90. He was the widower of Patricia C. Wilkerson.
Bill was born and in Miami, Florida on October 11, 1932, to Mr. Thomas W. Wilkerson and Mrs. Teat Sparks Wilkerson.
He was raised and attended schools in Miami. He was an Air Force veteran having served as an armament specialist in the Korean War.
Bill retired from Eastern Airlines having worked many years as an airline mechanic.
He was a faithful member of King’s Baptist Church in Vero Beach, he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Wilkerson, Jr., his sisters Kathleen (Kitty) Lustig, Ruth Ramona Martindale, and Mary Hummel.
He is survived by two brothers, Walter Wilkerson and Carl Wilkerson, his daughter, Katharine (Lori) Claussen, his son Kenneth Wilkerson, his granddaughter, Dr. Katharine (Kalee) Claussen Smith, two great-granddaughters, Katharine (Kate) Smith and Chandler Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at King’s Baptist Church Wednesday, December 14th, 11:00am followed by burial in Winter Beach Cemetery with military honors.

William “Bill” Ballough was a faithful husband to his wife, Carole Marie Loechl, for over 41 years. Bill and Carole met while attending college at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri. They were married on April 25, 1981, and moved to Sebastian, Florida, to start a family and new life together. Bill was a loving father to their two sons, William Elliott Ballough and Michael Gregory Ballough, and to their grandson, William Ethan Ballough, son of Bill and Jacqi Ballough.
In 1973, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after completing high school. Bill’s time in the Marines shaped him profoundly, holding a dedication to excellence his entire life. Bill consistently paid special tribute to those who fought and served before him. Never one to seek personal recognition, Bill would not refer to himself as a Vietnam veteran because he did not experience active combat. Bill served at the end of the Vietnam war, was stationed in the Philippines, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill was awarded his Dress Blues in boot camp, was a platoon leader, and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1979.
After earning his Florida contractor’s license in 1980, Bill established the construction company MGB Homes, which later became MGB Construction. Bill, along with his wife Carole, mother Mary Ellen, and business partner John Laman, built residential homes focused on quality. However, the business grew because of the integrity and honesty that Bill embodied. MGB became one of the foremost custom home builders in Indian River County. For over 25 years, Bill oversaw the construction of thousands of residential homes and several commercial buildings, including Riverside Church in Roseland. Bill was extremely active in the local business community and served as chairman of the Sebastian Construction Board in 1987.
Incredible generosity permeated Bill’s life. He purposely sought opportunities to give to those around him and actively taught his sons and grandson to model his behavior. Demonstrating his generosity, in 2002, Bill spearheaded an effort to build a new home, free of charge, for an elderly woman who had lost her home in Wabasso to a tornado.
As a lifelong businessman and entrepreneur, Bill started or partnered in the ownership of multiple companies, including Premier Truss in Orlando, Quick Mart convenience store in Lakeland, FL, MGB Construction, MGB Homes, Shoreline Shutters, Anchor Construction, and Earl’s Hideaway Lounge in Sebastian. Bill held a U.S. patent and, in 2014, authored a book called the “Acquired Skill of Trading.”
In 2006, Bill retired from construction to enjoy more time with his family and friends. He loved spending time on his boat and appreciated the beauty of the intercoastal waters. Bill was also a private pilot and would fly his plane almost daily to have breakfast at Okeechobee airport. Additionally, Bill liked “buzzing” the air boaters out in the marsh with his grandson Ethan and flying to different areas of the state with his wife Carole, brother Gary, and friends.
Bill leaves a legacy of love, faithfulness, generosity, and integrity. He will be missed dearly by all those that knew and loved him.
A celebration of life gathering will begin at 11 am Friday, December 16, at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian, FL.

Paul “Don” Caton, 84, Vero Beach
February 5, 1938- December 15, 2022
Paul Donald Caton of Vero Beach Florida passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2022 at the age of 84 surrounded by his family.
Paul was born in Philadelphia PA to the late Paul Caton and Ella Smith.
Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Paul was a certified Electrician and worked for Robinson Alarm Company for many years before retiring. After retiring he joined the Southern Lehigh School District and worked for many more years as a Custodian.
He and his wife moved to Florida in 2005 and Paul then became a part time associate at the Home Depot and a Volunteer for the Sebastian Police Department.
Paul enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, taking his boat out and riding motorcycles.
Paul is preceded in death by his Father, Mother and Son.
He leaves behind his wife Joy of 50 years (Vero Beach Fl), Daughters Joy Mesaros (Allentown PA), Jennifer Caton Myers (Husband Rick) (Sebastian Fl) Granddaughter Laurie Thankrah (Delaware) Grandsons Paul Caton (Philadelphia PA), Matthew Mesaros (Tamaqua Pa), Zachary Mesaros (Micro Fl) and two Great Granddaughters Madelyn and Delaney Caton (Philadelphia Pa)
And his fur baby Abbey.

William H. Simmons, 81, Sebastian
May 13, 1941 – December 8, 2022
William H. Simmons of Sebastian, FL, passed away early on the morning of December 8, 2022. Bill was born in Owensboro, KY, to W.C. and Geraldine Simmons in 1941. He is survived by his wife Wandalee of 36 years, his sons Jeff and Chris, daughter Jill, and pre-deceased daughters Cindy and Julie, as well as stepson Chris and pre-deceased stepsons Tim and Ted. He was loved and adored by his 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Bill’s siblings include 5 brothers, Chuck (wife Ann), Tony (wife Shirley), Steve (wife Alice), Ronnie, and John (wife Teresa), as well as Sisters Marilyn (husband Ron) and Harriet.
Bill graduated from Brescia College in Owensboro with an Accounting degree and subsequently earned his C.P.A. license. His early years were spent as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand. He then worked for Dynalectric Company in Owensboro before transferring to Denver, CO in 1977 with his first wife Martha and their 4 children (Cindy, Jeff, Julie, Chris). As Bill ‘s career advanced with Dynalectric, he took positions of increasing responsibility in Atlanta, Miami, and McLean VA, retiring as an Executive VP in 2008 with parent company Emcor.
Bill enjoyed spending his retirement time volunteering with Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, 15 years as a volunteer policeman, and as a member of the Sebastian Planning and Zoning Commission. He was passionate about his blood donations, averaging 4 times a year for over 25 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Sebastian Catholic Church on Friday January 20th, 2023 at 10AM followed by a reception at the LeSage Hall at 11AM.
