Mary Jane (Palomba) Reese Lacey, 95, Vero Beach

October 24, 1927 – December 22, 2022

Mary Jane (Palomba) Reese Lacey, age 95, died peacefully December 22, 2022, in Vero Beach, FL where she lived for 26 years with her beloved second husband, C. Perry Lacey.

Born on October 24, 1927, Mary Jane was the youngest daughter of five children of the late William and Helen Palomba, of Boswell, PA. She was raised in a close and loving family of hard-working Italian parents. Her family owned a restaurant, and her mother was known for her gourmet cooking- a skill that she passed down to her daughter, Mary Jane.

In high school, Mary Jane, aka Tootsie, was a vivacious and popular young woman. She excelled academically and was involved in many clubs- including the Glee club. Always interested in beauty, and excited to start her career, she completed her Cosmetology degree and was licensed as a beautician before graduating with her high school diploma from Boswell High School in 1945. She then earned an Associates in Recreational Therapy.

Mary Jane melded her passion for beautifying and her devotion to helping others when she accepted the position as a beautician (rising to Director of Recreational Therapy) at the Somerset State Hospital. She subsequently met and married her first husband, the late John R. Reese, of Somerset PA, Director of Social Services and Admissions at the hospital, in June of 1953. Mary Jane and John were married for 36 years engaging in numerous nonprofit and volunteer activities, working and entertaining together, while remaining closely connected with their large extended family.

They had semi-retired to Vero Beach FL when John died unexpected at the age of 61. Mary Jane continued to travel between the two states and was blessed to meet her second husband, Perry, formerly of Dayton Ohio and a logistics executive with the Air Force and General Motors, while in Vero Beach. They were married in May of 1996 in the chapel of the Community Church of Vero Beach (FL).

Highly devoted to each other, they were rarely out of each other’s company, and were the epitome of a loving and caring couple. Mary Jane and Perry enjoyed traveling the United States to visit their many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends. Generous and fun-loving, they were often found at parties until the wee hours of the morning and even six months ago could be found on the dance floor at a high school graduation party for family friends!

MJ, as she was affectionately called, was a lady until her last day, elegant and sophisticated in her dress and beautifully coiffed and styled. Everyone was astounded at her age as she looked years younger. Bright and witty, knowledgeable, she had a great sense of humor- a delight to be around. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends in both Somerset and Vero Beach.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, sisters Edith Rigo, Ethel Romero, and Virginia Spina, and brother William Palomba and his wife Myra. Tyler Morgan Cox, 29, Vero Beach

March 1, 1993 – December 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of a loving son, brother, husband, and father, Tyler Cox, on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022. Tyler, along with his family, are lifelong residents of Vero Beach, Florida.

Tyler was adventurous and had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting at our family ranch; the smile on his face when he got his first deer with his dad at the age of 7 let us all know he was hooked. Every year our family went on summer vacation to The Keys which is where Tyler learned to fish, use a spear gun, and catch lobsters. Around his middle school years, he began shooting at the gun range. He consistently practiced; his rapid improvement ignited a competitive spirit within him. He used that spirit to his advantage by joining in on the weekly match at the range; he was outshooting those who he affectionately referred to as “the old guys” in no time. Throughout high school he raised swine with the Jr. Rancher’s 4H group. He was a Cub Scout, played soccer, t-ball, flag football, and loved paintball.

Tyler met his high school sweetheart, Sommer, when they were 15. Their love story turned into a beautiful marriage when they exchanged vows in front of close family and friends in 2016. Their wedding was the beginning of the next stage of his life. Children! Tyler and Sommer have 3 amazing children who all have inherited his best qualities. Morgan, 5, is “little Tyler.” She is as stubborn as the day is long, determined, sassy, and full of laughs. Rilyn, 4, is sweet, loving, and so tenderhearted. Taylor, 2, is the baby. She’s quiet and shy until she warms up, then loves with her whole heart. Tyler’s devotion to his family was evident by the amount of time he spent with them. He worked hard and was always seeking a way to better himself, to make everyone proud. He had a huge heart, was kind and helpful to many, and loved big.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Sommer Cox, their 3 girls, Morgan Grace, Rilyn Hope, and Taylor Faith; parents, Frank Lacy Cox III, and Rene Cox; siblings, Lacy Cox (Daniel Wood), and Cameron Cox (Ashley Cox); niece, Abbie Oglesby; nephew, Brody Cox; grandparents, Lee & Betty Walther; many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins (The Poteat Family, Plott Family, Stanley Family, King Family, and Simmons Family); in-laws, Bill and Lisa Kidd; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Annalee Cox; his paternal grandparents, Frank Lacy Cox, Jr and Dorothy Louise Cox; maternal grandpa, Tim Simmons.

Tyler will meet us at Heaven’s Gates when we are called home. Until then we know he is telling jokes, laughing, helping others, going on adventures, and enjoying the fishing hole.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 10:00 AM at Calvary Chapel in Vero Beach. Following the service, we’d like to invite you to join us at noon at The Barn, located at 6200 Johnston Road, Ft Pierce, where we will have a benefit for his wife and children including lunch, silent and live auctions, and raffles. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the event or at SouthState Bank in Vero Beach.

“The Barn is actually located off of 43rd Ave, approximately 1 mile south of the Indian River County Line. We would like everyone to dress casually. Please bring your camping/folding chairs to ensure we can all gather together comfortably to remember Tyler.”
