Afternoon update, Feb. 14, 2021

Indian River County verified 50 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, along with one new death, according to the Florida Department of Health county report. This raises the total amount of county cases to 10,490, while the death toll increased to 252.

The numbers in the reports are provisional and subject to change. Health officials said 112 out of the 252 Indian River County deaths were at long-term care facilities.

There have been 627 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Indian River County, health officials said. The number of hospitalizations and county cases are both cumulative.

There were 26 people still hospitalized as of Sunday, according to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.

For the Indian River County cases among residents, 7,016 were white, 1,028 were black, 944 were listed as “other” and 1,412 were listed as “unknown.”

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 1,827,373, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 29,275.

Indian River County verified 53 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, along with one new death, according to the Florida Department of Health county report. This raises the total amount of county cases to 10,438, while the death toll increased to 251.

The numbers in the reports are provisional and subject to change. Health officials said 111 out of the 251 Indian River County deaths were at long-term care facilities.

There have been 626 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Indian River County, health officials said. The number of hospitalizations and county cases are both cumulative.

For the Indian River County cases among residents, 6,980 were white, 1,025 were black, 938 were listed as “other” and 1,410 were listed as “unknown.”

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 1,821,937, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 29,179.

Harmful blue-green algae toxins found at Blue-Cypress Lake

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Swimmers, boaters and fishers should use caution after health officials recently detected harmful blue-green algae blooms in the Blue-Cypress Lake area, authorities said.
