Young mariners braved stormy weather during the recent Veterans Day Regatta hosted by the Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County.
Since 2015, YSF has joined with Melbourne Yacht Club, US Sailing Center of Martin County and the Palm Beach Sailing Club to host fall and spring regattas in the eight-race Florida East Coast Series.
Sailors ages 8 to 18 increase confidence and skills by competing in Opti Silver Beginner, Opti Gold Advanced, 420 and Open Skiff classes.
After a wet start, more than 60 sailors in 41 sailboats competed in the regatta, with YSF sailors placing in each of the three categories they entered. Vero’s Mylee Smith and Lynden Bartholomew won the 420 class, the most competitive of the categories.
