Head, Heart & Hands of Indian River Club (HHH), a philanthropic organization of the Indian River Club community, has been a core support system for our neighborhood elementary school, Indian River Academy (IRA), where more than 75 volunteers assist with creating a positive and effective learning environment.
However, due to COVID restrictions, IRA cannot host our volunteers into the school environment. The HHH team asked the staff of IRA for an alternate way to contribute. We learned that students will not be permitted to share supplies that support the learning environment and that the school could not fill that gap. Volunteers jumped into action enthusiastically preparing for the opening of the school year. We kicked off a drive aimed to close the anticipated gap by soliciting the identified school supplies for students returning to the classroom.
This summer, HHH gathered dozens of backpacks, 340 pencil pouches, 1,000 pencils, hundreds of crayons, loose-leaf paper, and hundreds of student notebooks, among other various school supplies. Many generous members of the Indian River Club community donated, sorted, inventoried, and boxed the myriad donations. On Thursday, August 6th, an SUV caravan delivered the boxes of supplies to IRA. Ms. Good, the new Principal, and Ms. Davis, the returning Assistant Principal, were present to receive the supplies. Ms. Good explained that the boxes would be unpacked in the school cafeteria, and teachers would be encouraged to select the supplies their students will need to begin the year. HHH’s goal is to ensure that returning students will have the materials they need to begin the school year on a bright, positive note. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our Indian River Club community, the teachers and students of Indian River Academy will enter the school year prepared for success.
