INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 30-year-old man who deputies said broke into a woman’s home and punched her several times before stealing her vehicle, was detained Friday.

Deputies arrested Nathan Jameson Strowbridge, of Fort Pierce, on a variety of charges, including burglary with assault and battery, false imprisonment, grand theft auto, tampering with the victim and criminal mischief. Strowbridge was held Sunday at the Indian River County Jail on $86,000 bond.
Strowbridge also has an unspecified warrant out of St. Lucie County, jail records show.
Indian River County deputies responded to a disturbance about 1 a.m. Friday at the woman’s home. The woman told deputies Strowbridge – her ex-boyfriend and father of their children – came to her residence uninvited.
The woman told Strowbridge to leave several times, but he refused, reports show. Strowbridge took the screen off a front window, opened the window from outside and reached his arm to unlock the front door, deputies said.
The woman struck Strowbridge’s arm with a candle stick to stop him from coming inside, reports show. Strowbridge opened the door and ran at the woman, pinning her against a wall, deputies said.
When the woman tried to call police, Strowbridge took her phone and smashed it, reports show. Strowbridge then grabbed the woman by her hair and slammed her head on the corner of a wall, deputies said.
Strowbridge threw the woman to the ground and struck her several times, reports show. The woman was able to get up, run to a neighbor’s home and call 911.
Strowbridge took the woman’s keys and tried to flee from the area, but was stopped by deputies responding to the scene.
Deputies arrested Strowbridge and took him to the county jail. Strowbridge has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 3, court records show.
