INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 32-year-old man found with plastic bags containing opiates was detained Sunday.

Deputies arrested Dethomas Alexander Brunson, of the 3000 block of 44th Lane, Vero Beach, on charges of trafficking hydromorphone and possession of a controlled substance. Brunson was released Sunday from the Indian River County Jail on $21,500 bond.
Indian River County deputies responded to a disturbance about 1 a.m. Sunday at Econo Lodge, 950 U.S. 1. Brunson’s girlfriend called dispatchers, telling them Brunson was yelling and preventing her from getting inside her vehicle, reports show.
The woman gave deputies Brunson’s description. Deputies went to the back parking lot of the lodge and saw Brunson walking away from the building.
Deputies saw Brunson reach into his right front pocket and toss a clear sandwich bag containing a white substance on the ground. Deputies handcuffed Brunson and picked up the bag, which had several white pills, reports show.
Inside the bag, deputies found a second bag that contained blue pills, authorities said. The blue pills tested positive for oxycodone and the white pills tested positive for hydromorphone, officials said.
Dethomas denied the pills belonged to him.
Deputies arrested Dethomas and took him to the county jail. Dethomas has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 3, 2020, court records show.
