INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Residents and commuters near Interstate 95 might see or smell smoke from a 211-acre prescribed burn Monday, authorities said.
The St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park was authorized to conduct the burn Monday at the Sebastian Buffer Preserve, according to the Fellsmere Police Department and Florida Forest Service. The time range for the burning was not immediately available.
The area of the prescribed burn will be located half a mile east of I-95 and north of County Road 512, police said. State officials usually conduct the burns to scorch off dead vegetation so new crops can grow and to lessen the chance of an uncontrollable wildfire.
