Hours & Address: Dinner daily at 5 pm
3103 Cardinal Drive, Vero Beach 32963 | Phone: 772-234-3966
What and Where: After a two-month renovation, Vero’s top dining spot is again serving dinner at its charming island home in Central Beach. Chef Leanne Kelleher – who has presided over The Tides kitchen for a quarter century – heeded the pleas of her many fans, and ultimately chose an amazingly well-executed refresh of her vintage restaurant over a relocation to South Beach.
Ambiance/Atmosphere: Year after year, Vero’s best for fine dining.
Adult Beverages: Full bar; excellent wine selection.
Reservations: Don’t even think of going without one.
Price: $$$$
Rating: Five stars
Overall Verdict: Like many longtime Vero residents, we were a bit apprehensive when we heard last winter The Tides was moving from the building where we had enjoyed so many great meals and memories. So we were among those who cheered in June when Chef Leanne announced she had decided to remodel The Tides and remain on Cardinal Drive. Along with other Tides’ regulars, we eagerly awaited the opportunity last Wednesday to preview the changes. It was a relief to find that while a number of visible and infrastructure upgrades had been made in the two months the restaurant was closed, its intimate character and personality had been perfectly preserved. When we dined there two nights later (excellent black snapper; perfectly prepared duck), The Tides was as usual totally sold-out. As the French might say, is “Plus ça change.”
