SEBASTIAN — Officers continue to search for the driver of a sports utility vehicle they said struck a man walking in the crosswalk Tuesday night, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle’s driver did not help the pedestrian and continued traveling south, police said.
Sebastian Police Department officers responded to reports of the hit-and-run collision about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the area of U.S. 1 and Main Street, north of Sebastian Boulevard. Responding officers found the injured man lying in the roadway.
The man was taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne with serious injuries, said Tim Wood, interim police chief with the Sebastian Police Department. His age and town of residence were not immediately available.
“We are asking the community’s assistance in locating the suspect vehicle and identifying the driver,” Sebastian police officials said in a statement. “The vehicle is described as a light-colored SUV, which was last seen at approximately 9 p.m. on August 25th in the area of the crash.”
