This week I had a Totally Crispy Biscuits time with Miss Hazel Lou Bevan, who is UBER excited about her new job over on the beach.

Hazel is the new Pet Experience Director, and the new face of the Pampered Paws Paradise Program at a Cool Kibbles ree-ZORT called Kimpton, right on the O-shun.

When me an my assistant arrived in the LOBB-ee, the frenly desk human aimed us down a buncha of hallways to a room with what humans call an O-shun View. We were greeted by a nice lady an man, an invited in to meet Hazel.

Loungin’ gracefully onna super comfy-lookin’ (human, not dog) bed, an rockin’ a pink bandana, was this beauty-ful Golden Ree-TREE-ver: creamy gold coat, big brown eyes, big smile.

I was like ‘Woof!’ I fluffed my ruff an reminded myself I was On The Job.

“Good afternoon! Miss Hazel, I presume,” I managed, introducing myself an my assistant. “It’s a great pleasure to meet you. An that is a very fetching bandana,” I added.

“Thank you, Mr. Bonzo, I have a special bandana for every occasion,” she replied, jumping gracefully off the bed for the Wag-an-Sniff, then hoppin’ gracefully back up.

“I am SO happy to meet you as well. This is my Mom an fellow employee Courtney. My Dad James is elsewhere. An this is our boss Lee. We call him Mr. Hunter. Please havva seat. You should try the in-room tee-pee. It’s wa-ay comf-tubble. An DO have some water. It’s hot out there.”

Hazel nodded toward the floor. Sitting by the window was this Crispy Biscuits, dog-sized white tee-pee, open on the sides, an fitted with a thick, comfy-lookin’ pad. On the floor beside it was a big bowl of water.

“That is Seriously Cool Kibbles!” I exclaimed. “I don’t mind if I do.”

After all, I thought, I may never have another chance to sit inna dog tee-pee with an O-shun view. I took a few puh-lite slurps of water, settled onto the fluffy tee-pee pad an opened my notebook.
“So, Miss Hazel, maybe first tell me all about yourself, how you found your furever famly, an, of course, how you landed this obviously Crispy Biscuits job.”

“Well” she began, “I just turned 5 in March, an I’ve been with my Furever Family pretty much my entire life. Back then, Mom an Dad weren’t lookin’ for a dog. At All. They already had a human son, Mason, 7; an a daughter, Sadie, 3. But (I’m sure you can relate to this, Mr. Bonzo) when the Time Comes for a dog to find his/her Furever Famly, the Right Things just HAPPEN.”

“TOTALLY TRUE, Miss Hazel. I see it All the Time!” I heartily concurred.

“So, Mom’s bestie, Dianne, had just acquired a Golden Re-TREE-ver puppy an named him Howie. When she brought Howie over for a visit, Mom an Dad instantly fell in love with him, an ree-lized they HAD to have a Golden ree-TREE-ver puppy of their own. So they contacted the breeder inna faraway place called New Mexico, an purchased one of Howie’s littermates – ME!”

“Woof! Miss Hazel, that is Totally PAWsome!”

“I KNOW! Right? Mom an Dad flew on one of those whatchamacallits out to New Mexico, an picked me up an we flew back to here. (I wasn’t scared of the flyin’ part at ALL.) I was SO excited to meet my new sister an brother, an to have my very own Furever Famly, an reunite with Howie, my own littermate BFF!”

“So, Miss Hazel, how’d you score this pawsome job, which seems to encompass greeter/consultant/dog product quality control.”

“Pretty much,” she smiled. “Since Mom has worked here for a long time, I kinda grew up here. PLUS, I’m very, comf-tubble, outgoin’ you could say, with fellow pooches an humans. I’m pretty chill, but also what called gruh-GARRY-us! An also in-TOOEY-tive.

“You see, the human who started this resort, Bill Kimpton, was a Major Fan of dogs, and made all his resorts EXTREMLY POOCH FRENLY. The slogan is, ‘If your pet fits in the lift, they can check in, too.’ So, when they do, I personally welcome them (I’m always sensitive to each pooch’s doganality). We take their pickshur an put it on our lobby bulletin board. Then (after obtaining permission) I present each dog guest with a speshul, custom gift bag.

“I make sure every room is DogFrenly. Each dog guest gets towels anna specially robe. Not to brag, but, every item of dog furniture, clothing, beds, snacks, toys etc. has to receive my Paw of Approval.

“I speshully love playing with liddle kid guests, often out on the beach. Kids are my specialty! I’m typically on leash with Mom. Then, when I’m On Break, I often hang with my work BFF Jodeci Brown, he’s wa-ay Cool Kibbles.”

“What’s it like at home, off the clock?” I inquired.

“Let me think: I have my fav stuffy, a squeaky Sea Turtle. Ooo, an I get Treats: Soft ones like cheese. NOT biscuits. I like watchin’ TV shows about animals an birds. An I love goin’ to El Sid an sittin’ on the padio.

“At home, Mason’s my leash walk pal. I also play with my pooch big brother Stanley. We’ve been pals since I was a puppy. He taught me a lotta Important Dog Stuff. We’d run around the yard when we both got the Zoomies. I love playin’ Chase Me. But now it’s mostly with Howie. Stanley’s 13, so I try not to be too bouncy. Age before beauty, you know.

“I also have a new liddle rescue kitten brother, Hamilton. He’s jus 3 months old. Not bein’ familiar with pets of the fee-line purr-suasion, at first I was perplexed. I was like ‘What’s THAT?’

Now I play with him very gently so as not to smush him. He’s a Cool Catnip liddle dude.”

Headin’ home I was thinkin’ about charming Miss Hazel an how well-suited she is for her new, Very Cool Kibbles career and how, as her fren Miss Amy says, “she brings plenty of ‘doganality’ and just the right amount of Puppy Magic.”

Till next time,
