What and Where: For an authentic German food fix, 32963 diners need only drive north to the next barrier island. Café Coconut Cove, setback from A1A on the lagoon just 11 miles from the Sebastian Inlet bridge, is operated by a restaurant family that came here five decades ago (!) from Aachen – and the Deutsche cooking is the real deal.

Ambiance/Atmosphere: Attractive German decor.

Must-Try Dishes: German potato pancakes with sour cream.

Adult Beverages: No cocktails; Extensive beer and wine list.

Reservations: Walk-ins only.

Price: $$-$$$

Rating: Four stars

Overall Verdict: The riverside setting of Café Coconut Cove, the old-world European charm you will find inside the restaurant, and the great German food are a combination that’s hard to beat. On a recent visit, we started with crispy German potato pancakes with sour cream and an apple cranberry compote. Then we gorged on a variety of classic dishes including schnitzels, brats, sauerkraut, sauerbraten and red cabbage. We hardly had room for the homemade apple strudel!
