When Anthony “Tony” Zorbaugh, Executive Director of The Source, learned that the Senior Resource Association was retiring one of their GoLine buses via an auction, he was quick to get in line to win the bid to take ownership of the vehicle. And that he did.
“Our motive is simple,” states Zorbaugh. We are known for restoring what was and putting them back to good use again. We have now succeeded in doing that with operating what will soon be our Dignity Bus into its 9th location. In fact, you might say that’s what we are doing for each of our members who come to us for help in getting their lives back on track and on their feet so they can live a life of dignity.”
The newly named vehicle is “Dignity in Motion,” making this a new addition to their long list of other fully encompassing services for The Source’s registered members. Source members who include Bob Atherton, Anthony Romayo and Shawn Tillman are driving the Bus and tracking the locations of the passengers.
“Dignity in Motion” is being used 7 days a week and is door-to-door service for Source neighbors and graduates who are employed and housed in their community. The scheduled transportation includes visits to doctors, grocery, banking and work related activities. The Bus holds 18 passengers in air-conditioned comfort. It is handicapped accessible and even has a bicycle rack for those who wish to bring their bikes with them. Employment Specialist Joanna Perez oversees the program’s operations including coordinating ride requests, planning routes and dispatching drivers as needed. A small program fee is being charged and reservations are required.
According to Jade Alexander, Neighbors Services Director, “Reliable transportation is an important part of stability, responsibility, and the journey towards independence. “Dignity in Motion” helps remove transportation barriers so members can stay focused on their goals, their health and their future.”
