INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A bicyclist was killed after colliding with a semi-truck along Oslo Road on Tuesday morning, deputies said. The identity of the bicyclist, a man, was not publicly released.
“(The bicyclist) was not in a crosswalk,” said Lt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Jaworski said the bicyclist was also not traveling in a bicycle lane.
“It appears he was in the eastbound lane at the time of the crash,” Jaworski said. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a crash about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday on Oslo Road between 19th and 18th Avenue Southwest. The semi-truck’s driver called 911 and told dispatchers he struck a bicyclist while heading eastbound on Oslo, Jaworski said.
The bicyclist was riding on a black mountain bike. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, said David Rattray, deputy chief with Indian River County Fire Rescue.
The crash led law enforcement officers to close Oslo Road between 20th and 18th avenues. Traffic was detoured to 10th Street Southwest.
All lanes were reopened by 11:30 a.m.
