 
                
                                                                        The Galleries at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach opened its annual Fall Art Show, “Through Their Lens,” on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 520 Royal Palm Blvd. Featured artists are photographers Robert McCall and Panol Vega. The opening reception gave visitors an opportunity to stroll through the curated exhibition, meet the photographers, and enjoy live piano music by Dr. Jacob Craig, director of music and arts at First Pres. Admission was free. The exhibit runs through Dec. 31 with gallery hours from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and on Sunday mornings between church services. Pelican Island Conservation Society will celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week with its annual Indian River Bird & Nature Art Show at the Historic Sebastian School, 1235 Main St., Vero Beach. Hosted by the Indian River Lagoon Program, the show will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from Oct. 10 through Oct. 19. An artist’s reception and awards ceremony will take place on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m., and throughout the week visitors can participate in tours and activities at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. The Tom Danaher Memorial Golf Classic begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Sandridge Golf Club, 5300 73rd St., Vero Beach. Registration is $125 with funds benefiting The Arc of Indian River County. The Veterans Council will host its Clay Shoot Fundraiser beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Vero Beach Clay Shooting Sports, 5925 82nd Ave. Participants will check in for breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a mandatory safety briefing at 8:45 a.m. and then the scramble shotgun start. The United Way of Indian River County will hold its annual Day of Caring on Saturday, Oct. 11. It begins with an 8 a.m. kickoff breakfast at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, 3901 26th St., Vero Beach. The Indian River County 4-H Youth will present its Wild Wild West Casino Night and Poker Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Polish American Club, 7500 U.S. 1 in Vero Beach. The event begins at 6 p.m. with casino-style games, raffles, an auction and dinner. Tickets range from $80 to $85, with poker participation an additional $50. Each ticket includes two drinks, food, dessert, $150 in fun money to play at the casino, and the chance to win raffle prizes valued up to $5,000. A silent auction will also be part of the evening.
