VERO BEACH — A flood watch, high surf advisory and a coastal flood advisory will remain in effect as showers prepare to sweep through the area over the weekend. Meteorologists said waves off Vero Beach were 1-to-2-feet above normal late Friday.
“The waves will be pretty big. We’re advising people to stay out of the water,” said Melissa Watson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. “There will be a high risk of rip currents, along with rough conditions. Remain weather aware.”
The flood watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. The coastal flood advisory will last until 11 p.m. Sunday, and the high surf advisory will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Monday.
Meteorologists also issued a small craft advisory, which will last until 4 a.m. Monday, Watson said.
Friday will have a 50 percent chance of showers, while Saturday and Sunday will have a 60 percent chance of rain. The days will be partly sunny with a temperature near 85 degrees, which will dip to about 75 degrees at night.
The rainy weather was expected to continue into next week.
Monday will have a 60 percent chance of rain, while Tuesday will have a 50 percent chance of showers. The days will be partly sunny with a high near 85 degrees, before falling to about 75 degrees at night.
